In 2009, a group of 30 homeowners in Austin, TX banded together to buy solar systems. After several months of thorough research, the group submitted $1 million of applications to the Austin Energy Solar rebate program. Unfortunately, while the group's will was great, the rebate program's budget was, well, not. A lack of rebate dollars stopped the group's goal dead in its tracks.
Even though the group's goal was not immediately realized, Aman Jain, the group's leader, was convinced the huge success of mobilizing a large group of individuals for a common goal was the result of access to quality information and custom-built tools that helped increase the group's conviction that solar was not only a great way to go green, but could also be a great financial investment. He quit his job to start a company to develop tools to make going solar easier than ever. That company is SunMath!
